Leela Beach - The peaceful gem in the south of Koh Phangan
It already looks a little like paradise as soon as you leave the car park and walk towards the beach. The small beach of Haad Leela in the south of Phangan is absolutely beautiful. It lies between the two other Haad Rin beaches and is really impressive with its quiet, gleaming white sand and with its enormous palm-trees.
Haad Leela is nearly 800 metres long and promises a relaxed holiday if you want to avoid the hustle and bustle of the other beaches. Here you can enjoy the tranquility and completely relax, but you can also walk to the nearby village of Haad Rin where you will find boutiques, bars and everything else the heart desires.
The sea is wonderfully calm, perhaps even too calm. Swimming is great from October to March and the crystal clear, shimmering water is really refreshing. In the high tide months of January and February kayaking and jet-skiing are even possible. However, in spring, from April onwards, the water goes so far out that you need to walk for quite a long way until you reach the water’s edge.
If the water is too far out, you can still enjoy swimming in the pools of the two chic accommodation complexes. Here you will also find sun-loungers available for renting. The southern end of the beach is a little wilder and with its ancient bamboo huts and mangroves makes a more rustic impression. There are plenty of nice spots in the shade, and couples, honeymooners and families with small children can feel especially at home at this idyllic beach.
A great beach to enjoy a paradise-like holiday, and the perfect sunset here rounds off the ideal setting of this little dream beach. If you are looking for the ultimate romantic escape, then you should walk over the little wooden bridge around the rocks at the southern end of the beach and enjoy the peace and quiet at the Lighthouse Bungalows.
