Mae Haad Beach - great all-rounder in the north of Phangan
The lovely beach of Mae Haad is one of the most northern beaches of Koh Phangan and extends for just about 500 metres. A sandbank connects the beach with the offshore island of Koh Ma, which you can reach with a short walk at low tide. Its green water and wild jungle gives the small island a very intriguing appearance and it is definitely well worth exploring.
The sea in this region is very shallow and clear and attracts mainly families and snorkelers. There is even a local diving centre where you can book courses to obtain your diving licence, or book one of the many day-trip excursions which go mostly to the nearby Sail Rock. However, there is also an offshore reef at Mae Haad where you can explore the colourful underwater world.
You will find day-trippers as well as regulars at Mae Haad. The sand is very fine and numerous palm-trees and other trees offer plenty of shade. Here you will find plenty of sun-loungers which you can hire for a small fee and there are also some hammocks between the trees, which means that there is lots of space for everyone to relax at this cosy beach.
In the southern part of the beach are some typical bungalow sites and in the north there is a very chic 4-star hotel which has made a name for itself. In between the bungalows at the beach are several massage parlours offering all kinds of different massages such as Thai, oil and foot massages. You can allow yourself to be really spoiled here and in the evenings at the same time enjoy the wonderful sunset.
