Thong Sala Beach - the town beach of Phangan with lots of things to do
Thong Sala is the transport hub of the wonderful dream island of Koh Phangan, as it is here that nearly all the boats with holidaymakers arrive. It might not be the most beautiful of town beaches, but it has the advantage of having lots of shops and activities nearby.
Swimming is not possible directly at the pier, but the one-kilometre long, sandy beach in the east has several accommodation options away from the hustle and bustle, but still near to the town, where you can stay and enjoy a relaxed atmosphere at a quiet beach.
Swimming is great here from December to March, but during the rest of the year the sea goes a long way out. Instead you can then enjoy long walks of up to 10 kilometres until the most southern part of the island, Haad Rin, comes into view and doing this while the sun is setting is especially spectacular.
Depending on the tides and weather there are shells and seaweed to be found on the beach, but this gets cleared away most days by the locals.
If you are staying at Thong Sala Beach, you can enjoy its proximity to the town of the same name, which is the largest of Phangan. Here you will find numerous shops as well as the food market of Thong Sala. The market can be reached from the beach in a few minutes and here you can find all kinds of delicious food, such as sushi and Thai cookshop food
