Srithanu Beach - the town beach of Koh Phangan for fans of a healthy lifestyle
Many beaches of Phangan are a bit off the beaten track, meaning that you need to travel for quite some time to do any kind of shopping. This does not apply to Srithanu Beach in the west of the island which attracts mainly yoga fans and those following a healthy vegan lifestyle.
There are many palm-trees and other trees providing shade along the small, sandy beach, so that you will find a nice place to enjoy some rest even at lunchtime. Normally the water is calm, which is great for swimming most of the year, but in the rainy season from September to November it is not so pleasant.
The harbour at the southern end of the beach is used by numerous fishing boats which provide the village with fresh sea food. The village itself has also become a popular destination for day-trippers. Srithanu Beach especially attracts yoga lovers and the restaurants nearby have followed this trend and, as well as Thai food and cookshops, also offer a large variety of vegan dishes.
As well as families, Srithanu Beach also attracts backpackers of many nationalities with its inexpensive accommodation along the beach. Off-season the beach is also popular with retired people who come here to enjoy the tranquility.
In addition, Srithanu Beach is popular with locals and other Thais who like spending their holidays at a quiet beach, as well as enjoying Thai soccer, canoeing and volleyball. In the south the bay is enclosed by a hill and in the north you can enjoy probably the most beautiful sunset on the island. You will find that this is also a popular spot for meditation.
