It is not difficult to find beautiful beaches on the islands of Koh Phi Phi, as there are so many of them. It is rather more difficult though if you are looking for some peace and quiet as well as privacy. However, the beach of Bamboo Island offers you exactly that. If you go away from the central part of the beach, you can not only enjoy the breath-taking scenery of white sand and turquoise, shimmering water and a spectacular colourful underwater world, but also some peace and quiet and sometimes even solitude. Bamboo Island is a real dream beach for beach-lovers.
Bamboo Island - Dream island with white sand and colourful underwater word
Bamboo Island is a small island whose real name is Ko Mai Pai, or just Koh Phai. It belongs to the island group of Phi Phi and is situated north of the large main island of Koh Phi Phi Don from where it can be seen. The beach of Bamboo Island surrounds the whole circular island and is one of the nicest in the Krabi region.
In contrast to the other islands of Phi Phi, Bamboo Island is flat and has no steep cliffs. The centre is a forest which only to a small degree consists of bamboo. The lush green of the island is surrounded by a white, sandy beach which is up to 90 metres wide and which slopes gently into the turquoise, crystal clear water of the Andaman Sea – simply a dream!
A long way away on the horizon you can see the spectacular coastline of the Railay peninsular on the mainland of Krabi and Koh Phi Phi Don on the opposite side and in between them the neighbouring island of Mosquito Island. There is also a lot to see underwater on Bamboo Island and directly at the beach you can go snorkelling and enjoy the underwater world with its many colourful fish. Further out to sea there are also great areas for diving.
Especially in the main season from November to March, many speedboats arrive with large groups of travellers at the widest and most central point of the beach. Here you can also find a snack bar with lots of seats in the shade where you can get something to eat and drink. If you want to get away from this busy part though, you just need to walk a few hundred metres along the beach. After a short while it becomes very quiet and if you are lucky you can even enjoy this wonderful idyllic setting in complete solitude.
To get to Bamboo Island you can join one of the travel groups which come here from the mainland or from the other islands in the region. In Koh Phi Phi Don you also have the possibility of hiring a long-tail boat as your private water taxi for half a day or a whole day. There are no hotels or any holiday accommodation on Bamboo Island, but camping is allowed. You can hire a tent here, but there are also providers who offer camping trips which include the boat trips, food and entertainment programmes.
