Freedom Beach - The Paradise Cove
You will need to come early with your beach towel to what is probably the smallest beach on Koh Tao, as there is not much space in this very beautiful bay. For many holidaymakers this small, idyllic beach in the south of the island is a must-do while they are here.
The way here is rather adventurous, via a sandy road and very steep steps down to the beach. The first impression you will get of this small bay is promising, as you will see the snow-white sand and shimmering turquoise water which will tempt you to stay here. At the beach itself you will rarely find yourself alone and you will see a lot of beach towels and not much space between them. There are some trees at the edge of the beach providing shade and behind it there are large rocks. The sea is shallow most of the year and is great for snorkelling because of the small reef at the side. Here there are many colourful fish which add to the nice setting of this bay.
The overall scenery of the beach is very natural and you will see some tree-trunks protruding from the sand, as well as leaves and roots scattered around. There are only a few bungalows and one restaurant nearby, and those needing more action should go to Chalok Baan Kao which is not far away.
If you want to do something else apart from sun-bathing and snorkelling, then you can take the adventurous route behind the beach to what is probably the nicest viewing point of Koh Tao. About halfway along is a ticket booth where you have to pay a small entrance fee to enjoy the fantastic view, but it is certainly well worth paying for!
