Sai Nuan Beach - Isolated bay for those seeking peace
Most of the beaches of Koh Tao are hidden in remote bays and can only be reached by taking on an adventurous scooter ride and this also applies to the lovely beach of Sai Nuan. If you leave the main road between Mae Haad and Chalok Baan Kao, you have to travel up and down steep roads over the highest mountain of Koh Tao to reach this small, secret bay. The journey is well worth it though, as it is simply fantastic here.
Sai Nuan consists of two small, sandy bays and is right next to a lovely green area which looks like a small garden and which has many trees providing shade. Among the sandy areas are huge rocks which give the beach a rugged appearance.
Swimming is great here, as the sea is very calm and shallow all year round and the small reef at the edge of the beach is fantastic for snorkelling. You can hire the appropriate equipment for a small fee at one of the two restaurants. Be careful though when entering the water, as there is dead coral scattered in the sand. There is not a lot happening at the small beach itself and it is only the long distance to the nearest village which puts people off leaving this idyllic spot, particularly in the evenings. There is not much to do and apart from the two restaurants, all there is here is the Banana Rock Bar where you can enjoy a few drinks and cool beats. Sai Nuan is therefore great if you are looking for peace and quiet and you would like to enjoy a few days relaxing in a small, idyllic location.
