Summary of the Beach Inspectors
The teeny-tiny beach of Cala Mitjana in Majorca near Cala D'Or is signposted, but it lies at the end of a private road. The car park is two kilometres away and the walk here is particularly hard work in the summer sun. If you are prepared to make the journey, you will be rewarded with a small but refined area of sand, wonderful bathing conditions and a view over the rocky bay covered in pine trees and the well-kept lawn of a neighbouring private property.

Cala Mitjana - Teeny-tiny sand beach in an exclusive setting

The small beach of Cala Mitjana lies in the east of Majorca near Cala D'Or and is not to be confused with the larger natural beach of the same name on the north-east tip of the Balearic Islands at Cala Ratjada. Both beaches are quite secluded, but at this one the nearest place to park is two kilometres away, so you have to walk quite a long distance. Particularly in the midday heat that can be a challenge, which could spoil your good holiday mood.

The beach is really small - it measures just 12 metres wide and four meters deep. A marked path and, for the last few metres, a set of stone steps leads down through the wood to this mini area of light sand. The small stretch of sand is bordered right the way round by flat rocks that continue to run through the bay and form the coastline.

A large private estate, which reaches further than the eye can see, borders Cala Mitjana beach directly on one side. The well-kept green lawn stretches behind the trees that stand on the shore, right up the hill. The main house of the property is some distance further up and is only partially visible from the beach. Down by the beach there is a bungalow with a small terrace, including private deckchairs. The opposite edge of Cala Mitjana beach has been tastefully landscaped, presumably also under the instruction of the land owners.

The bathing conditions here on the beach of Cala Mitjana are very good - the water is clear and calm and everything looks very well-kept and clean. Only a few visitors are prepared to make the long journey on foot, which means that you have a good chance of being practically or completely alone here as well. However if by chance there happen to be a few more people here at once, the little area for lying on the sand can quickly get very cramped. Because of the ostentatious private grounds that lie directly adjacent and the concealed location it can seem like the beach of Cala Mitjana is not open to the public. It is though, so don't let that put you off spending a really lovely day on the beach in this exclusive setting.
