Playa d'es Port - A town beach that makes the ideal starting point for a boat trip
Playa d'es Port is right next to the harbour of the south Majorcan coastal town of Colònia de Sant Jordi. The community has blossomed from a former fishing village into a respectable holiday destination. At the harbour you can book an excursion to the nearby island of Cabrera.
Playa d'es Port is about 150 metres long and forms a semi-circle around the pretty bay. Sun-hungry holidaymakers will get their money's worth here just as much as those who are after a shady spot or a bit of privacy. Immediately adjacent to the beach is a tempting palm-fringed beach promenade with lots of shops, restaurants and bars. Here you can buy beach equipment, as well as clothing and souvenirs. Right on the beach you'll also find various places to eat.
Despite the proximity of the harbour, the water is clean. The fine, light sand shelves very gently into the turquoise-blue water, where there are so many boats anchored that they almost block your view of the horizon. Aesthetically, however, this spectacle is more than satisfactory, especially in the evening.
You should definitely take advantage of your stay here to book a boat trip to one or other of the nearby bays. Many of these can only be reached by water and are thus often devoid of people. Whether or not you have a boat driving licence, the sole operator right on the beach charges 38 euros an hour. If you'd rather travel by non-motorised means, you can hire a canoe here as well.
