Cala Major
Less than quarter of an hour away from Palma, the extremely popular bay of Cala Major lies at the foot of a densely populated hillside with multi-storey apartment buildings and hotels. Rocks border the light sandy beach to the right and left. You won't find yourself wanting for anything here. Sanitary facilities, bars, shops and restaurants take care of the needs of bathers, a group made up of both locals and tourists. The central location and easy access mean that the beach also appeals to an older crowd. An attractive range of water sports activities, as well as the Pilates and yoga on offer, further enhance the bay's appeal.

Cala Major - Urban beach near Palma with lots of visitors

Cala Major is a suburb of the Majorcan capital, Palma, and the name of the bathing bay that can be found there. Apartment buildings and hotels line up shoulder to shoulder on the rocky hills that surround the bay and tower into the sky in places. On the right-hand side the terrain is a little rockier. A small rocky island that rises out of the water is privately owned and therefore sadly not open to the public. On the left-hand side the bay is bounded by a steep rock face that stretches out far into the sea.

From Palma the beach can be reached in about 11 minutes. A taxi shouldn't cost you more than 15 euros. The journey is cheaper on the bus (L 104), which departs from Palma every 30 minutes.

The beach has plenty of visitors throughout the season. It extends over almost 250 metres and with a maximum depth of 50 metres, offers quite a lot of space. The white film, which is occasionally still lying on the water in the morning, gives way relatively quickly to the clear turquoise sea water that makes Majorca so special. A well-developed tourist infrastructure offers public showers and toilets as well as sun loungers and sunshades for hire. In Komono Market you can also buy beach equipment and souvenirs. A small bistro / bar caters for snacks, ice cream and drinks. A chiringuito bar with music and cocktails also contributes to the relaxed and yet somewhat more sophisticated atmosphere of the beach.

The Komono Store offers a shop and food outlet as well as tours, yoga and Pilates, amongst other activities. The water sports on offer range from kayaking, jetskiing and bodyboarding through to surfing. Whilst the water is usually calm, the waves appeal to some surfers, especially in winter. Tourists and Majorcans alike appreciate Cala Major. The uncomplicated journey, easy access and a good infrastructure make the beach very popular with older people as well.

recommends this beach It is Just beautyful the water is so clear sometimes you see fiches swim. The see is not so deep in the beginning so it's perfect for the little ones. It is an amazing magical place. We are going this year for the 4th time. It is just a dream to be there. We love it!
