Playa Ca'n Pere Antoni - Soak up the sun against the silhouette of the island's capital
The cathedral of Palma de Mallorca seems close enough to touch, but you don't sense any of the bustle of the nearby old town here. Despite its central location the urban beach of Playa Ca'n Pere Antoni, also known among the local population as Playa de Portixol, offers a spot that is wonderful for relaxing.
The beach is easy to reach along the main road that runs through the city parallel to the coast. It lies just two kilometres east of the centre of the island's capital and can be reached from there on foot or by bike along the large promenade. The coastal path is not just designed for pedestrians, it also has separate bike lanes. To the east it runs past the well-known beach of Playa de Palma to the large holiday resort of Es Arenal.
On the spacious, palm-lined promenade you will find lots of restaurants and bars, some with large terraces, on the ground floor of the newly constructed multi-storey buildings. From Italian pasta to large kebabs, the menus have something to suit every taste.
The beach itself features a long area of soft sand where you can hire loungers under straw beach umbrellas in places. These are only available in the summer months though, when there are also lifeguards keeping an eye on safety on the beach. Playa Ca'n Pere Antoni is a popular destination for residents of Palma and tourists. In this spot families, couples and singles of all ages will find a calm oasis in the big city.
At the eastern end, Playa Ca'n Pere Antoni culminates at the Nassau Beach Club. The exclusive restaurant offers high quality food and in the evening you can sip cocktails in a fantastic beach bar setting.
