Summary of the Beach Inspectors
The harbour town of Port de Sóller is situated in one of the most imposing mountain landscapes on Majorca. With a long sandy beach in a sheltered harbour bay, lots of shops, restaurants and cafés along the promenade and a historic tram, it is not only very well developed for tourists, but has a great deal of charm in comparison with many other holiday resorts. Port de Sóller attracts lots of older people and families who want to have a relaxing holiday in a superb landscape, but where they don’t have to manage without the normal facilities.

Port de Sóller - Genuine holiday resort in idyllic surroundings

Set against an impressive mountain backdrop, the harbour resort of Port de Sóller curves around a large sheltered bay on the north-west coast of Majorca. Whereas the north-eastern part, Bahía, is given over to sailing boats and yachts, the rest of the shore is fringed by a long narrow strip of sand, where guests from nearby holiday accommodation enjoy themselves in the peak season.

Port de Sóller is one of the most important places in the north-western part of Majorca and is separated from the rest of the island by the impressive Tramuntana mountain range. From Palma it is 32 kilometres to Port de Sóller, with one section of the route passing through a toll tunnel. If you take the serpentine roads through the mountains, the route is a few kilometres longer. There is hardly anywhere to park right by the beach in Port de Sóller, but there is a pay and display car park nearby.

A lot of older people and families spend their summer holiday in the town, and overall it's very pleasant here in a sedate way. Directly behind the beach there is a promenade where you will find numerous restaurants, cafés and little fashion boutiques. For the most part the shops are very tastefully decorated and stock everything you might need for a beach holiday, from a linen shirt to sun cream. A historic tram runs along the promenade, and this links the town with Sóller, an idyllic mountain village around eight kilometres to the south.

In the peak period from May to October you can hire beach furniture at Port de Sóller beach. From June to September a lifeguard keeps an eye on safety. You'll also find a diving tour operator on the promenade. Down on the sand various water sports operators hire out equipment for stand up paddle boarding, canoeing, motor boating and pedal boats. The gradually shelving access to the calm water, plus a small play area, contribute to the enjoyment of this beach, especially for families.
