La Cuvette - Great swimming beach with wonderful sunsets

La Cuvette is a small, mysterious bay in the north of Mauritius. It is known as the nicest swimming bay in this part of the island and lies hidden between the two larger public beaches of Grand Baie und Pereybére.

The beach is striking because of the contrast between the nice light sand, the turquoise sea and the black rocks. The beach is above all popular among families with small children, as the swimming conditions are perfect due to the crystal clear and very calm sea. The water is also relatively shallow, so that you can walk far out into the sea or explore the underwater world with your own snorkelling equipment.

At the weekend lots of local families come here to have a picnic and relax in the shade under the trees. There are also plenty of benches where you can settle down and read a book. Especially popular at La Cuvette Beach are the diving excursions offered by the diving school at the beach. Here you can book diving courses and experience night excursions to explore the underwater world.

There are several small snack bars serving local specialities such as typical curries and delicious sea food and you can also get snacks and fresh fruit here.

Later in the afternoon you can watch the catamarans returning and look forward to the breathtaking sunset.
