Grand Baie Public Beach - Beach in a tourist area
Grand Baie Public Beach is right in the centre of the town of the same name and can be reached on foot from the many hotels, restaurants and shops here. The Banana Beach Club is also at the beach and many party fans come here in the evening to enjoy a tropical cocktail.
There is also a restaurant at the beach and nearby there are plenty other places offering food and drink. There is a car park at the beach where you can also find numerous street food stalls and fruit stalls offering local specialities.
The beach is at the main road of Grand Baie which means it can get a bit noisy here. The sandy beach is 300 metres in length and is surrounded by nice greenery. This park area provides shade and you can sit on a bench and watch the fishing boats coming and going in the turquoise-blue sea. There are also many glass-bottom boats on the water and you just need to talk to one of the local owners and negotiate a price for a tour. In addition, the local water-sports provider offers catamaran tours, as well as parasailing, banana boats and much more.
The beach is mainly used by the locals, but you will also occasionally see some tourists here. The beach is not great for swimming, as there are so many boats on the water. Stray dogs are a common problem in Mauritius and Grand Baie Public Beach is no exception.
