Playa de las Arenas - Stony bay between rocks with a small sandy areaPlaya de las Arenas is situated in the north-west of Tenerife near the village of Buenavista del Norte. Here a small island consisting of black sand is surrounded by a sea of stones and rocks. However, this little sandy area can only be seen at low tide in summer, as the sand is under water at high tide and is washed away in the winter months by the strong currents. The untouched, wild scenery is quiet spectacular as on most days the waves crash very forcefully against the cliffs and rocks. A vegetated path leads down to the beach and further along the bay. Car parking spaces can easily be found above the beach at the road, where there is also a kiosk which sells among other things snacks and drinks. From up here there is already no doubt what a beautiful spot this is.
Swimming conditions are not ideal here, especially in winter as the rocks, stones, strong currents and big waves make spending time in the sea rather challenging and there are no lifeguards here. If however, you are looking for an idyllic spot with superb scenery and you only want the occasional dip in the water, then this is definitely somewhere for you. Also to be found here are small pools among the rocks which offer shelter from the forces of nature.
If you follow the road or the path in an easterly direction you will come to the Burgado restaurant, situated right at the cliffs and with wonderful views. This well-known restaurant has a variety of tasty dishes and the fresh fish dishes are obviously especially recommended.
