Summary of the Beach Inspectors
In two big swimming bays and a shallow paddling pool you can relax with nice views of the sea. Particular highlights of Bajamar are the enormous waves, which shoot up directly beside the pools. Besides lifeguards, showers and toilets, there are also restaurants here to perfectly round off a relaxing bathing day. The natural outdoor pools of Bajamar are admittedly not a beach in the classical sense. However, we highly recommend this as a welcome change to the typical black beaches in northern Tenerife.

The natural pools of Bajamar - A nice change to the beaches in the North

Bajamar is a homely place in northern Tenerife. The location does not have a real beach; instead there are two man-made, public seawater pools. They were built in order to allow the locals and visitors to swim, as this would be life-threatening in the sea, due to the extremely strong currents and the high waves. The pools are located directly on the sea front and are filled by the sea and are free for everyone. The larger of the pools has a length of about 60 metres and the smaller one approximately 50 metres. You can take your time and enjoy the view of the roaring sea here.

On the left of the pools there is a small bay in which you can sit down on the sandbank at low tide. On the right-hand side of the large pool there is a shallow children's paddling pool, a playground and a small fitness course next to it. The whole bathing area is accessible to all, including wheelchair users. For relaxed safety there are lifeguards on duty all year round.

At high tide and strong swells the waves crash against the defensive walls so strongly that 2-5 metre high water fountains shoot up by the side of the pools. Bajamar is famous for this natural spectacle. On the patios of the restaurants next to the seawater pools you can watch the swells with tasty Tapas.
