Playa de Diego Hernandez - Relaxing bay with a stunning view
Playa de Diego Hernandez is a very beautiful and remotely situated sandy beach in the south-west of Tenerife. From the village of La Caleta it is a walk of about one and a half kilometres along a narrow path over a hill. When you see the beach you will definitely know why the long walk was well worth it. The turquoise, crystal clear water and the light coloured sandy beach surrounded be nicely shaped rocks are priceless for all admirers of beaches and nature.
The only buildings near the beach are some huts where hippies and dropouts have settled. They are also to be seen in small caves and the rock cliffs, from where you have a great view of the beach and sea.
The beach scenery is characterised by the hippies. The atmosphere towards holidaymakers is very relaxed and welcoming, which make this beach worth a visit for a few hours. Especially nudists will find it very relaxed at Playa de Diego Hernandez. The rocks provide shade and access into the water is shallow and the waves are mostly small. The beach is therefore suitable for families, as long as they are prepared to walk there and can put up with not having any toilets.
You have to do without any infrastructure and amenities here and also bring your own food and drink. At the weekends and in the holiday season locals also come here for camping. In the evenings, when the sun sets near the neighbouring island of Gomera, there are regularly drum-sessions where everyone is welcome to participate.
