Playa de San Marcos - Swimming bay with dark sand and slightly faded flair
Playa de San Marcos is situated in the north-west of Tenerife and is well signposted. You will find a beach here which has seen better days. The restaurants could do with a new coat of paint and the hotels are not really heaving with tourists. In spite of this, the one-time flair of this beach is still perceptible.
Down at the beach and up on the promenade there are rows of restaurants where you can enjoy fresh and delicious fish dishes, as well as typical local and general Spanish delicacies. There is also a small cocktail bar on the beach and even Italian cuisine can be found here.
All year round this small bay is relatively well frequented by locals, as well as holidaymakers from around Europe. Some of them have been coming for years and still remember the good old days when this nice place was still at its best.
Playa de San Marcos is one of the few sandy beaches in the north. This popular swimming bay is also well protected from currents and waves, which are only small, so that families with small children can also relax here. The entrance to the nearby harbour is at the edge of the beach, but the few passing boats do not get in the way when swimming.
