Playa de los Cristianos - A comfortable swimming beach with numerous leisure activities
Playa de los Cristianos is located in the town of the same name, Los Cristianos. It is a tourist hotspot in the south of Tenerife and has a spacious, sandy beach almost 400 metres long. Due to its depth of almost 100 meters its overall area is even greater than you would expect of a beach of this length. The beach is bordered by a promenade, where plenty of shops, bars and restaurants are to be found. If you wish to avoid the high prices of the restaurants on the promenade, you can head to the nearby small winding alleyways, where there is good value for money to be had.
At its western end Playa de los Cristianos borders the harbour, where interesting excursions such as deep-sea fishing and whale watching are on offer. The high hotel buildings in the background and the proximity of the harbour are not to everyone’s liking, but are not intrusive when lying on the beach. On the contrary, you will find the perfect conditions here for a relaxing, yet varied day at the beach, in particular for families.
The cool water is ideal for paddling, as it is well protected from the waves due to its enclosed position between the typically rocky coast in the east and the large harbour in the west. However, if anyone does get into trouble while swimming, there are lifeguards on duty. There are normally plenty of sun-loungers and parasols, but due to high demand at peak times they can be in short supply. In accordance with the saying “First come, first served” you should get to the beach early in order to get a lounger.
Playa de los Cristianos also has a lot to offer children. The resident sailing school offers courses especially for children and in the summer there are entertainment programmes organised by the town. In addition there are also kayaks, windsurfing boards and stand-up-paddling boards available to rent.
