Playa del Ancon - An isolated beach in a breath-taking natural landscape
Those who want a beach which does not suffer from mass tourism and also those seeking adventure and seclusion will be certainly be pleased to discover Playa del Ancon. The route here is not the easiest, but you will be richly rewarded for your exertions.
Playa del Ancon is situated near Puerto de la Cruz on the edge of El Rincón. From here a narrow, single-lane road leads through an area of banana plantations to a small parking area of the neighbouring beach of Bollullo. The footpath continues to the right here to Playa del Ancon, also known as “Los Patos”. A crumbly stairway, partly with railings, leads down to the beach. The last part leads over rocks which can sometimes be slippery. The path is somewhat tricky and it is at your own risk that you head for the beach.
Nevertheless, once you have arrived, it becomes clear that the journey was worthwhile. Waiting for you is a wonderful, long, beach of black sand, completely untouched and often almost entirely deserted. The fantastic view of the steep, lush green cliffs in the background and the constant sound of the waves arouse your senses. It is breathtakingly beautiful.
As the majority of visitors prefer the neighbouring Playa Bollullo due to the easier access, few people are found on Playa del Ancon. Nobody feels disturbed by nudism here and the beach is also well known in the gay community. Those wanting to surf should bring their own equipment, as you can get good waves here. A word of caution: the way back is more difficult at high tide and you should think about what you can carry when you need to balance on the slippery stones.
