Playa Martianez - Small, black town beach with good surfing conditions
Playa Martianez is a small, unimpressive town beach at the western end of Puerto de la Cruz. The black, sandy beach stretches along a promenade and in the background large hotel buildings dominate the scene. However, there is a lovely view over the sea to the mountains and the coastline. There is also a nice restaurant at the promenade from where you can also enjoy these views.
If you are looking for sporting activities, on most days there are good conditions for surfing and body-boarding. A surf school next to the restaurant offers courses and equipment for hire. The waves are best for surfing here between November and April and there are lifeguards on duty all year round.
On the whole Playa Martianez is not a very impressive beach, but if you are visiting the nice town of Puerto de la Cruz, then you have the chance to go for a very enjoyable quick swim here as well. Surfers who stay in the town have the chance to ride the waves here without having to travel too far.
