Klong Muang Beach - Diverse, idyllic sandy beach
Klong Muang Beach is only a few minutes by car or scooter from the popular holiday resort of Ao Nang in the Krabi region. This sandy beach is about four kilometres long and has several areas which are spread across two bays. In the south-east Klong Muang Beach begins with a spacious section where you will mainly find locals, but also beach walkers and joggers. In contrast to most of the other beaches of the region, fishing boats dominate the scenery on the water here.
Here is also the official entrance to the beach which the “Klong Muang Beach“ signs will lead you to. If you follow the beach towards the north-west you will find more and more swimmers in specially designated areas. However, swimming is also possible and allowed outside of these areas. This is where the area with the luxurious hotel complexes begins and you will find sun-loungers under palm-trees at the rear of the beach. In addition there is a small water-sports school here where you can book windsurfing courses for beginners and where you can hire equipment for stand-up paddling and also canoes.
A picturesque, little offshore island forms the border to the second bay and with it the next section of the beach. At low tide this can be reached by foot without getting wet. Here the trees protrude further over the beach to offer more natural shade.
Small, quirky, original bars and beach restaurants provide the atmosphere a little further along. Here you can settle down in the shade or in the sun and enjoy some food and drink, as well as cooling off in the water. Now and then you will hear the motorised long-tail boats arriving and departing, but they do not make a continual noise and anyway some of the bars play pleasant background music which drowns out the noise from the boats.
A two-storey, family-run and nicely decorated restaurant is to be found at the end of this section of the beach. Here you can enjoy exquisite food, a great variety of drinks and even massages, and the view of the sunset is especially nice from here. In the evenings there are dance shows and you can sit by candlelight at the beach or upstairs in one of the lounge corners. To reach the last section of Klong Muang Beach you have to either wade through a small estuary or just walk for a while along the road. The beach gets narrower here and there are even more spaces in the shade under the trees and you can find a bit of privacy here too. In this section the road runs parallel to the beach and on the other side of the road is another hotel complex. In the background, but a little further away, is a loading ramp for ships which slightly tarnishes the nice setting of the beach and the road in this part is also rather near. The setting on the other side of the estuary is considerably nicer.
