Railay Beach West - Nice swimming beach between breath-taking cliffs
If you are on holiday in the Krabi region, you should certainly not miss out on the Railay peninsula. Here you will find a spectacular landscape and four beaches, of which Railay Beach West is the best known. The easiest way to get to this beach is by water-taxi from Ao Nang using the so-called long-tail boats. The boats depart as soon as there are at least six passengers going to the same beach, which usually occurs between once and four times an hour.
On the short journey here you can already admire the breath-taking view of the steep cliffs along the coast and the imposing rock islands in the sea. You will travel past Pai Plong Beach and Tonsai Beach and can enjoy the sight of these wonderful neighbouring beaches of Railay Beach.
Railay Beach West is surrounded by particularly high, steep cliffs on both sides and in some parts of the rear of the beach. In between you will find the lush green of large forest areas and palm-trees which provide shade all the way down to the beach. Most of the hotel complexes and their restaurants are situated here and from their terraces you have a direct view of the beach. Most of the restaurants are open to the public. Some of the hotels have a swimming pool and loungers, but these are only for guests of the hotels.
In between the resorts is a footpath which leads across the peninsula to Railay Beach East. There are several further restaurants, snack bars, bars and shops, as well as the local diving school along this walkway. The diving school does not offer courses here at Railay Beach, but brings you by boat to the nicest diving spots in the area. There are also climbing schools here where you can hire equipment and climb the surrounding cliffs of Railay Beach West, which are a perfect spot for this. You can also reach the other beaches of the Railay peninsula (Tonsai Beach und Pranang Beach) by foot. In addition, there are some small outlets at the beach where you can hire canoes to explore the coast.
In spite of being so well-known and popular, Railay Beach West is not especially crowded. However, it is noisy here most of the time due to the many day trippers, holidaymakers arriving and departing and the sound of the motorised long-tail boats. Fortunately though, there is enough room here for the masses to spread out along the spacious beach and in the hotel complexes, so that you should be able to find a quieter spot, particularly at the edges of the beach, to relax, swim and enjoy the fantastic view.
