Summary of the Beach Inspectors

Praia de Vale Figueiras is a popular surfing spot amidst fantastic natural scenery. Having made the long journey through the remote, windy, hilly landscape of the Western Algarve, you'll come across lots of surfing enthusiasts on the beach. The schools from the surrounding area like to come here with their protégés because the roaring waves surge frequently onto the shore at Praia de Vale Figueiras. Whilst this fantastic sandy beach, which stretches out in front of an impressive rocky backdrop, has no infrastructure or food outlets, it does offer plenty of natural beauty and tranquillity.

Praia de Vale Figueiras - A remote west coast beach for surfing and relaxation

The route here, which is not very well signposted, leads you through the secluded, windy, hilly landscape of the West Algarve past small farmhouses and scattered houses. It takes 25 minutes to get to the remote sandy beach from the small Portuguese town of Aljezur. From the car park you have to walk about 100 metres down a steep street to reach the entrance to the beach, where a natural, unspoiled sandy landscape opens up between high green hills.

From there Praia de Vale Figueiras stretches out to the north and south along a diverse and steep rocky landscape for almost one and a half kilometres. The widest and most frequented section of the beach is at the entrance. Young singles, couples and families come here to spend a day on the beach away from mass tourism and pollution. In this spot you will find pure nature. Little ones can explore on the pebbled areas and along the steep cliff faces. In the water you should keep an eye on your children at all times because there are no lifeguards on duty and the strong waves and the current are not to be underestimated.

It's precisely these conditions that make the beach a popular destination for many surf schools. They come in groups from the surrounding area to teach their students how to ride the waves. From June to September the conditions are perfect for both beginners and advanced surfers.

Praia de Vale Figueiras has no tourist infrastructure. Instead you'll find plenty of peace and privacy at this beach, against a fantastic natural backdrop. Particularly to the north there are lots of secluded spots along the cliffs, which one or two nudists have also discovered for themselves.
