The small beach of Praia do Vale do Olival, at the edge of the holiday resort of Armação de Pêra, is not an oasis of peace, or at any rate not in summer. At that time of year numerous visitors from the nearby hotels and holiday apartments come here in droves to soak up the sun, play in the sand and cool off in the cool Atlantic. To the west, however, you will find some quieter spots, even in peak season. You can enjoy local dishes and a view out over the colourful hustle and bustle on the beach in one of the three restaurants with terraces.
Praia do Vale do Olival - Lively beach at the edge of a holiday resort
In front of the striking concrete backdrop of the holiday resort, Armação de Pêra, visitors to Praia do Vale do Olival are packed in amongst rows of sun umbrellas and beach towels. When there has been heavy rainfall, outside peak season, a small torrent empties into the Atlantic here, although in summer there is little to see of it but a narrow dried up riverbed.
Praia do Vale do Olival merges to the east into the large town beach of Armação de Pêra, where even more holidaymakers are normally to be found enjoying themselves in the water. A small rock face marks the boundary between the two stretches of coast. Praia do Vale do Olival is situated on the edge of Armação de Pêra and, in contrast to the many hotels in the town, is surrounded by plenty of greenery. By car the beach is 15 kilometres from Albufeira, and 19 kilometres from Portimão. There is a large car park very close to the beach.
This lively beach is popular with guests from the nearby holiday accommodation, including families and couples, both younger and older. To the west you will find a separate bay between the rocks, away from the crowds and rather more peaceful. There are three restaurants dotted across this beach. They serve a wide range of local dishes for you to enjoy, and from their terraces there is a great view of the sea.
