The large lounging area is backed by a high cliff that shimmers reddish gold in the sun. Caves and tunnels that have formed in the rocks, meaning that you are guaranteed a shady spot on the sand.
The beach of Praia dos Três Castelos, on the south coast of the Algarve, is especially busy in the warm summer months. It's just three kilometres south of the town centre of Portimão, one of the region's big tourist centres. You'll find a parking space for your car along the coast road. A narrow set of steps leads down the cliff, ending right on the sand.
Praia dos Três Castelos is a favourite beach destination with the locals - both families and couples like it here. The sand slopes comparatively gently down towards the water and the Atlantic shows its quieter side. You can rent sun loungers and umbrellas to relax on and lifeguards keep an eye on beach safety.
Down on the sand and along the promenade at the top of the cliff you will find a number of restaurants. These will serve you mainly local dishes, but also Italian cuisine.
