Summary of the Beach Inspectors

The small beach of Playa Gaviotas on the Costa del Sol is noted for its staid, family-friendly atmosphere. As well as having a great time in the normally mild Mediterranean water, children can let off steam at several play areas. Sometimes there's a big bouncy castle and a water playground. The beach has a surface of coarse-grained sand, mixed with stones here and there, and is equipped with showers, toilets and lifeguards. The overall atmosphere of tranquillity makes the beach attractive for older couples too. You can get to the small village of El Castillo de la Duquesa, and also to a marina, on foot. At both these places you'll find plenty of restaurants. On the beach itself there are two chiringuitos where you can enjoy local dishes and delicious cocktails.

Playa Gaviotas - well-cared-for family beach with a staid atmosphere

Turning cartwheels in life jackets on the water playground, whizzing down the slide, clambering up the climbing wall and jumping on the bouncy castle - the little beach of Playa Gaviotas is a paradise for children. In the summer holidays families come here in droves, and many of them have been spending their holidays here for years.

The northern edge of Playa Gaviotas adjoins the small town of El Castillo de la Duquesa, with its many restaurants and small fortress. Here you will find free parking for your car on the side of the road, as well as a pay and display car park. The town is around 15 kilometres from Estepona and can be reached easily via the main coast road.

Behind the spacious promenade with its numerous benches and plentiful greenery are a number of large buildings with holiday apartments. The beach itself has a surface of coarse-grained grey sand, interspersed here and there with pebbles. Playa Gaviotas has been awarded the Blue Flag, and its amenities include showers and toilets. In the summer months lifeguards are on the spot to keep an eye on safety.

Despite the many families Playa Gaviotas is noted, even in the summer months, for its quiet, staid atmosphere. A good many older couples appreciate this too, and are happy to come to this beach to relax. You'll find a chiringuito at each end of the beach. Both of them offer their guests inviting terraces and sun loungers with umbrellas. The menus include regional dishes such as fresh fish. The bar staff will be happy to prepare delicious cocktails for you.

To the north Playa Gaviotas adjoins a small marina. Not only can you admire the boats here, you can enjoy Japanese food or indulge in an ice cream at one of the numerous restaurants and cafés.
