Risco del Paso - Enormous sandy area and swimming like in a lagoon
Welcome to probably one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe. Riso de Paso is part of the large beach in Solvento, which is in the south of Fuerteventura and can be reached from Costa Calma in around 20 minutes by car. The different shades of blue of the water and of the sky combined with the yellow/beige sand create a spectacular display of colours. The beach is overlooked by the sandy hill of El Paso which gave the beach its name.
Risco del Pasco is very diverse and depending on the tides the scenery changes dramatically. High tide creates in the middle of the beach a sea-water lake containing a raised sandbank which forms a hill. This little island can no longer be reached from the land but it is possible to walk approximately 300 metres to it through the water. Once on the island the stunning view can be enjoyed in peace and it is possible to jump directly from the sandbank into the sea. Like a lagoon the water is calm without waves and currents, which makes swimming safe and fun.
The lagoon disappears at low tide and instead there is an enormous sandy area on which long walks can be enjoyed. This is why Risco del Paso is particularly popular with nature lovers and beach walkers.
Furthermore, the consistent wind conditions provide a perfect windsurfing and kite surfing environment. Risco del Paso is one of the best beaches on the island for this and one of the top destinations in Europe. North of the beach an annual windsurfing and kite surfing competition takes place and the local windsurfing school offers courses as well as equipment hire. Ideal conditions therefore, to one day become a surfing expert yourself with enough practice.
Separated from the main part of the beach, which is especially frequented by families, is the extensive nudist area situated south of the surf school. Bushes and shrubs offer privacy and wind protection which makes sunbathing a more secluded and enjoyable experience, while offering shady corners when needed.
