Playa de Jarugo (La Mujer) - Remote, sandy beach with spectacular wavesPlaya de Jarugo, also known as Playa de la Mujer, is situated about 30 to 45 minutes by car from the village of Tindaya. Just follow the gravel road along the coast. An off-road vehicle for this kind of road would be a definite advantage. On arrival the walk from the car-park to the beach is about 200 metres through the dunes, which also offer shelter, protection from the wind and an area of relative quiet away from the noise of the crashing waves. The rather spacious, sandy beach stretches for about 400 metres and it is surrounded by rock ledges at each end. These rocks offer the possibility to enjoy the solitude, particularly at the left-hand side of the bay. The small waterfalls which form at the front of the rocks when the waves crash against them provide an amazing spectacle.
Playa de Jarugo is a dream beach which not many people make their way to because of its remote location and often you can find yourself completely on your own here. Swimming can be dangerous because of the strong currents and frequent high waves. However, on most days these conditions are good for surfers.
