Butihondo - Bay with a fine sandy beach offering good swimming conditionsThe Butihondo beach is situated on the south-west coast of Fuerteventura, about 15 minutes from Morro Jable. Car parking is available at the centre of the beach. From there you can walk along the approximately one and a half kilometre long beach and easily find a quiet spot.
A few large rocks offer shade and divide Butihondo into several smaller bays. A feature of the bay is the array of large rock piles constructed by visitors to the beach. These are found mostly at the rear of the beach near the cliffs. This is an ideal base to spend an enjoyable day, sheltered from both wind and sun.
The beach is good for swimming, as the water is shallow at the front and the waves are only small to moderate, at least in the summer months. Furthermore the majority of the beach is covered by ideal, bright fine sand with only the occasional rock. Some hotels are located on the cliffs which surround the beach. Hotel guests can easily access the beach via the steps down to the beach, where numerous barbary ground squirrels can be spotted. These cute rodents are quite tame and can be tempted to approach you by the sight of your lunch-box ! The bay is also ideal for long walks along the beach and the cliff edges.
