Achziv Beach - Hippy flair and cool party atmosphere
Achziv Beach is a fine sandy beach situated north of Haria at the Israeli Mediterranean coast, not far from the Israeli border. This remote, natural beach is mainly popular with young people. Among the locals it is known by its nickname of Banana Beach. This is because of the only beach bar there, which is called Banana Beach Sea & Bungalows and which serves Israeli dishes such as shakshuka and hummus, cold drinks and coffee, but also delicious cocktails in the evenings.
Young people. Historic Setting
Achziv Beach is a good surfing spot because of the high waves here, which is why you will see plenty locals on their surfing boards trying to tackle the waves outside the swimming area. The beach is above all popular though because of its relaxed atmosphere. Young people like to spend their afternoons here playing matkot, relaxing under the roofs covered with palm-tree leaves or splashing about in the waves. Alternatively, you have the option of going for a walk in the National Park of Achziv, which is directly behind the beach and which is mentioned in the bible as a important Jewish town in Talmudic times. The National Park is an ideal trip destination to take the family.
Sleeping at the beach?
Behind the beach are small bungalows which have beds and for a fee you can even sleep there. Many visitors however use them during the day to relax in the shade in hammocks in a refreshing breeze and to enjoy their beach day like this. You can also camp at Achziv Beach, as there are toilets in the beach bar and showers directly at the beach.
However, what speaks against sleeping at the beach are the beach parties which are organised by the Banana Beach Bar, even during the week. After the beautiful sunset, the music is turned up and the night party atmosphere at the trendy Banana Beach comes to life.
