Thong Nai Pan Yai Beach - A dream beach for flashpackers
It is no wonder that the beach of Thong Nai Pan Yai is seen as one of the nicest on Koh Phangan, as the view over the long bay is breath-taking. The lovely, clean, gleaming white sand and the turquoise-blue water provide the picture perfect setting for this beach, which is almost one kilometre long.
Away from the party hustle and bustle, you will find at Thong Nai Pan Yai a very special kind of visitor, the so-called flashpackers. Ten years ago the beach only attracted low-budget backpackers, but that has all changed. The atmosphere is still relaxed, but the accommodation sites here are becoming more exclusive and nowadays cater mainly for young families and couples. Some of these have been coming here for many years, but these days they come with their offspring to enjoy the cool flair of Thong Nai Pan Yai.
There is something to do for everybody at this beach. You can just relax and enjoy the lovely weather, but you can also try out various sporting activities such as kayaking, jet-skiing and diving. Situated here is the H2O-Divers diving school under Canadian ownership which is highly recommended. There you can book excursions to the nearby Sail-Rock which is surrounded by a very colourful coral reef.
The surroundings of this showcase beach are also well worth exploring. You can take a relaxed stroll in the nearby village or, for the more adventurous, head for the viewing point from where you have a fantastic view of the entire bay.It is just the location of the beach which has a couple of disadvantages. Although you can reach it very easily by car and scooter via a tarmacked road, the beach is rather remotely situated. If you are coming to Koh Phangan because of its famous party scene in Ban Tai and Haadrin, then Thong Nai Pan Yai is not really ideally located. However, you always have the option of going partying in the centre first and then enjoying the rest of your holiday at probably the nicest beach of Phangan.
