Lo Dalam Beach - The party beach of Koh Phi Phi
Lo Dalam Beach, which is also known as Loh Dalam Bay, is one of the two main central beaches of the popular holiday island of Koh Phi Phi Don. It is situated in the northern part of the narrow headland where Ton Sai Village, the centre of the island, is also to be found. You can get to Loh Dalam Beach by foot in about 10 minutes from the landing stage at Ton Sai Bay. This is in the south of the centre where most holidaymakers arrive by ferry on Koh Phi Phi.
Lo Dalam Beach is the quieter of the two beaches during the day, as only a small number of long-tail boats used as water-taxis arrive here in the shallow water. Ferries do not come here at all and only a few speedboats are to be seen here. At the beach you can hire kayaks with which you can explore the bay and the surrounding coast and you can also paddle to the neighbouring beaches of Monkey Beach und Nui Beach. At high tide you can really enjoy swimming and splashing about in the long, semi-circular bay in the turquoise-blue water. However, at low tide the water goes a long way out, making swimming more difficult and at times impossible.
Along the beach there are some hotel complexes, restaurants, bars and, above all, party hotspots. From the evenings until 3 o’clock in the mornings wild and high-spirited partying takes place in the open air on the beach. There are also breath-taking fire shows while cocktails are drunk from buckets using straws and boisterous dancing takes place to house music and party music. It is mainly young people in their early to mid-twenties who come here and almost every evening there is a Full Moon Party. You should only check into one of the hotels or hostels directly at the beach if you are planning to join the party, as you won't otherwise be able to get any sleep until it is nearly light again.During the day you will meet more or less the same people you were partying with the night before, but then the emphasis at the beach bars at Lo Dalam Beach is more on relaxation rather than partying. This is when you can enjoy the fantastic view of the coast and the sea in peace. There is hardly any loud music, except at the pools of two of the resorts where on three days of the week pool parties take place which are open to everybody. In the off-season from the middle of April to the middle of October some of the party locations shut down and then it is also quieter during the night in this picturesque bay.
