This family paradise on the south-west coast of Majorca is situated in a hilly landscape not far from the British party mecca, Magaluf. Two further family-friendly beaches, Playa Palmanova and Playa Es Carregador, can be reached quickly via promenades.
Playa Son Matias, however, essentially offers everything necessary for a relaxing couples' or family holiday. The well-cared-for beach, with its light sand, is 400 metres long. Although it is not too busy, there is a good infrastructure of facilities, making this glorious summer beach especially popular with families and those in search of relaxation. Those relaxing in the shade of its palms include guests from England, Italy, France and Russia.
The sea is very clean. On the northern and southern ends of the beach it gets a bit stony. There are jellyfish around, but they are not very dangerous. You can have fun with stand up paddle boarding, pedal boats and banana boating, or you can book a short diving trip right from the beach. These diving trips are, however, mainly aimed at beginners. Other facilities available right on the beach include massage, play areas and a covered pavilion for wheelchair users.
The food outlets are not as exclusive as at Playa Magaluf. Even so, on the beach promenade you'll find a good selection of restaurants and hotels. All told, this peaceful bathing beach offers plenty of amenities at reasonable prices.
