Cala Fornells - Stylish bay with small sandy beach and bathing terrace
The beach of Cala Fornells is situated in the resort of the same name in the south-west of Mallorca. A few hotels and restaurants lie above the beach in the background. However, these buildings do not affect the scenery on the beach, as the ground drops away steeply here and the beach is a few metres below. Once you have made it down, via various steps, you find a small sandy beach surrounded by cliffs on one side and an extended stone terrace on the other side.
Together with a few trees, the wall that separates the beach from the road above offers visitors some shade. Bathers who have brought their own sunshades and something to lie on settle down on the sand and rocks. On the terrace there are sun loungers and straw umbrellas available for hire from a chiringuito, a small wooden beach bar, which is located on the right-hand edge of the terrace and offers delicious drinks, snacks and sandwiches.
A few yachts lie anchored in the water some distance from the shore. However, bathers on the beach of Cala Fornells remain largely undisturbed by boat traffic because there is a large area that is just for swimmers. Whilst there are no water sports centres here, divers and snorkellers love spending time in the water because it is crystal clear and there are beautiful rock formations along the coast, both above and below the surface.
The view of the densely populated hills of the bay at Cala Fornells doesn't ruin the idyll. On the contrary, the interesting architecture of the terrace buildings and apartment complexes constructed in the style of Mexican pueblos actually adds to Cala Fornell's romantic atmosphere.
