Playa de Formentor - Long, narrow sandy beach with a magnificent view
In the north of Majorca, near the popular holiday region around Alcúdia, you will find one of the most beautiful beaches on the island - Playa de Formentor. It lies in the Bay of Pollença on the south side of the peninsula of Formentor. The nearest resort is Port de Pollença. From here you can't miss the beach of Playa de Formentor on the road to Cap Formentor, the northernmost point of Majorca.
Playa de Formentor is over a kilometre long, but because it is very narrow in most places, it offers a much smaller area to lie on than you would expect from a beach of this size. The light sand is fine and soft and the view over the entire bay and the northern foothills of the Tramuntana mountain range is fantastic. The hills in the background of Playa de Formentor are covered with pine forests. Many of the trees border the beach directly and provide shady spots.
Lifeguards are in situ and the sand slopes gently into the water. This makes Playa de Formentor very popular with families with young children. But teens and young adults like to come here too, to take advantage of what's on offer at the windsurfing school, amongst other things. Above the beach in Cala Formentor are the grounds of a well-known hotel, which belongs to a luxury chain. A restaurant, with its terrace right on the beach, and the loungers also belong to the hotel. Prices are correspondingly high here. There's even a drinks service right by the loungers and a massage pavilion between the restaurant and the hotel. Parking in the car park is not exactly cheap either and there are no free parking spaces.
The beach at Playa de Formentor is cleaned regularly, but there are often seaweed residues, mainly at the edges. However, this hardly spoils the bathing experience. If you want to relax and swim amidst natural beauty with a wonderful view, but without sacrificing any amenities, then Playa de Formentor is just the place for you.
