Summary of the Beach Inspectors
Cala Mendia is a relatively short beach, but there is still quite a large area for lying on the sand. However since it is very beautiful here as well, the bay is very popular and in summer it can get very busy. Whilst free spaces can always be found here, at least on the sand, when the beach is at its busiest these will be at some distance from the water. The water quality is partially clouded by seaweed in summer, although this usually gathers in certain areas and is easy to get around. Then you have a clear path into the particularly clear, turquoise-coloured water with great bathing conditions. A lovingly-run fish restaurant is well-known and popular, particularly amongst the locals.

Cala Mendia - Narrow sandy bay in a large rock basin

Although at approximately 70 metres the beach of Cala Mendia is not especially long, it has a quite considerable, large area of fine, light sand. Its size comes from its depth - the inland edge is over 120 metres from the water. A large part of the beach is served with sun loungers and straw beach umbrellas in summer. They are sought after and almost always fully occupied in peak season. If you want to save the hire fee and prefer lying on your own towel on the sand you will only have a fairly narrow strip in front of and next to the loungers, or you can spread yourself out towards the back of the beach at a distance from the water.

Cala Mendia is quite popular among the holidaymakers who stay in the hotels and apartments nearby. However locals make up a large proportion of the visitors here, at least during low season. Many of them live in the beautiful villas that can be seen from the beach in the hills surrounding Cala Mendia. They come to swim at this beach and also to eat fish at the well-known local restaurant, which has been run devotedly by three brothers for many years. On the terrace of the restaurant there is also a cosy beach bar. This beautiful bay has remained completely free of the "eyesores" of large, multi-storey hotel complexes.

Unfortunately, there are often a lot of natural residues in and on the water at Cala Mendia, which wash ashore from the sea and cloud your enjoyment of bathing at times. Visually the beach is, of course, much less attractive when there are large areas of seaweed in the water. As long as that doesn't bother you, you can normally go round it and swim out into the wonderfully clear, turquoise-blue water. The beach of Cala Mendia is especially good for this because the bay reaches a long way inland and is protected against currents and waves so it offers excellent conditions for relaxed splashing about or drifting peacefully on a lilo.
