Wolmar Beach - A retreat for the locals
Wolmar Beach in the west of Mauritius is a small sandy beach which is near the popular tourist beach of Flic en Flic. As this is a public beach you will find many locals here, especially as it can be very easily reached by public transport, car and by foot. At the entrance to the beach is a large car park where you will also find public toilets and free showers. Sometimes at the weekends there are small stalls here serving local snacks and drinks.
To get to the beach you need to go through a shady pine forest where you will find small huts with benches where you can settle down to enjoy your picnic. From the forest you also have a fantastic view of the horizon and if you are lucky you might even spot some exotic birds. Wolmar Beach has been completely left to nature and is bordered on both sides by the private beaches of the nearby hotels. Many local couples and families come here to enjoy their spare time. The shallow, turquoise water is ideal for snorkelling and the kids can come here to use up their energy and enjoy a safe splash in the water. Occasionally you might spot a few local anglers on the hunt for fish here. The romantic aspect of a holiday is also catered for at this beach, with couples in particular enjoying the perfect setting of Wolmar Beach for a romantic day at the beach!
