Sur Beach - fitness beach in the city
Sur Beach is the athlete of beaches, because the focus here is on fitness and sport. The beach lies in the north of the port city of Sur. Sur is situated around two hours' drive east of Muscat. The small city is particularly well-known for its shipyards, which produce the traditional dhows. These are old fishing boats that are really in a class of their own. What is special about them is that the boats are still made largely by hand. If you have a bit of time after visiting the beach you shouldn't pass up the opportunity to go there.
Sur Beach has football pitches, volleyball pitches and fitness equipment. When the evening sun allows the temperatures to fall a little the beach begins to fill with locals and tourists, who enjoy cooling off in the water and playing sport. There is plenty of space for this on the beach. At over 1.5 kilometres long it doesn't feel overcrowded even when it is well populated. The beach is very popular with the locals, which is also due to the fact that local businesses organise parties throughout the year. This is very unusual but extremely popular with all the residents.
There are no shopping opportunities directly on the beach but a coffee shop on the other side of the road that runs above the beach offers cool drinks and snacks. Public toilets can be found on the edge of the beach, but bathers will not find any loungers here. The beach is easy to reach and particularly recommended for families and solo travellers.
