Playa del Médano offers everything needed for a nice day at the beach. The bay is inviting for relaxation and swimming, and is also suitable for children as it is sheltered from the wind and waves. Kite-surfers and windsurfers can be watched from a safe distance, but do not disturb the swimmers using a separate area which is exclusively for swimming. A variety of bars and restaurants along the promenade offer a large choice of food and drink. All in all, El Médano is a perfect little beach for the whole family.
Playa del Médano - Centrally located beach with good infrastructure
Playa del Médano is the beach of El Médano in the south of Tenerife. High buildings provide shelter from offshore winds and a wave-breaker ensures that only a few small waves are to be found in this bay. The fine, beige-yellow sand makes a bright, colourful impression and is comfortable to lie on as well as looking good. There are showers and toilets here, together with lifeguards. Sun-loungers are also available for hire.
The promenade directly at the beach continues to neighbouring Playa de Leocadio Machado, which is a real hotspot for kite-surfers in Tenerife. From Playa del Médano you can enjoy a good view of the colourful kites and the boards whizzing past. However, these will not disturb you while swimming, as the beach has a separate area just for swimmers. There are numerous stalls at the nearby local market offering local delicacies.
El Médano is a family friendly town beach where children can enjoy a relaxed splash in the sea and can play on the beach. The nearby buildings do not make a very nice impression in the background. However, if you are looking for a centrally placed beach for sunbathing and swimming with a good infrastructure and plenty of places to eat, then Playa del Médano is an ideal choice.
